Bernard Samuels was the first full-time Director of Plymouth Arts Centre, where he discovered Beryl Cook. He inherited 900 paintings and over 300 notebooks from Ben Hartley, since when he has organised many editions of Bens work and published a monograph, Ben Hartley.
